He prosecuted a range of cases, including financial crimes, drug cases, homicides and animal cruelty. He also represented the state in appeals. He led a countywide Animal Cruelty Prosecution Task Force and coordinated with Columbia’s Homeless Court in the first project of its type in South Carolina.A native of Columbia, Joe worked for a community-based public policy and electoral advocacy organization before earning his Juris Doctor at the University of South Carolina School of Law. He remains active in the community and serves on the South Carolina Appleseed Legal Justice Center Board of Directors.
