About Marcia
Marcia Kuntz resumed her family law practice in 2012 at the firm of Kuder, Smollar, Friedman & Mihalik, PC after years as a legislative counsel and committee staffer on Capitol Hill and as an adviser, editor, and executive in the non-profit sector. In addition to her legal practice, Ms. Kuntz has taught Family Law as an adjunct professor at American University Washington College of Law. In April 2022, she co-founded the firm of Smollar Kuntz Locey, PLLC.Ms. Kuntz started her legal career as an associate at Arnold & Porter, and then moved to Kuder, Smollar & Friedman, PC. While there, she also co-taught Sexual Orientation and the Law as an adjunct professor at Georgetown.Licensed in Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia, Ms. Kuntz has significant experience as a negotiator and litigator, handling cases involving a wide variety of issues in Family Law and including representation of many LGBTQ+ clients. In addition to her practice, Ms. Kuntz regularly provides pro bono mentoring services for the District of Columbia Bar’s Advocacy & Justice Clinic.On Capitol Hill – as legislative counsel to Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA) and as Rep. Frank’s counsel on the Housing sub-committee of the House Committee on Banking and Financial Services – Ms. Kuntz worked primarily on issues related to the preservation and expansion of low income housing and the advancement of justice and equal rights for the LGBTQ+ community. Ms. Kuntz has authored and co-authored book chapters on family law issues, including those of particular relevance to the LGBTQ+ community. She has published in print and online numerous Op-eds, columns, and articles, both under her name and written on behalf of others. Ms. Kuntz is a graduate of Princeton University and the University of Chicago Law School. She lives with her partner in Takoma Park.
